Returning Soldiers

2009-09-01

The War on Terror coming to an end, it is time for our soldiers to return to their home according to the Iraq De-Escalation Act. Some of these returning soldiers would also be wounded and in need of a lot of support and understanding. Indeed so many of our soldiers have been fighting this battle at Iraq for so many days and so many have lost their lives that it saddens our heart thinking of their predicament.

The worst part is that there are many soldiers who do not even have a home to return to or a loving family who would greet them with their open arms. Even those who have a family and a home to return to are also afraid thinking about their injuries and the chances of finding any alternative employment when they get well. Apart from these there are many other complications that a soldier may have to face when they enter into a civil life.

Being sympathetic to the cause of the war veterans David H Brooks has founded a non-profit organization after his own name which welcomes and embraces the soldiers returning from battlefield. This organization lends an unflinching support towards these heroic people and makes them feel wanted. Indeed this is something which is the most important gift to a returning soldier; and that is to show them that they are welcomed, wanted and respected in our civil society. David H Brooks foundation sees to it that the soldiers who come to them are able to settle down comfortably and respectably in a civil life.

They provide all sorts of assistance and cooperation in the form of medical care, physiotherapy, home-assistance and even counselling services. They help the families also to understand the predicament of their loved ones to settle in a civil life and advise them on how they can be of help instead of becoming a hindrance unknowingly. Indeed this foundation is doing a highly commendable job under the able guidance and leadership of David H Brooks its founder. David Brooks had been associated with providing bullet proof vests to army and this long and close association with army have helped him understand the struggles and hardships in the life of an army man with a sympathetic and understanding attitude. How Can The Government Actually Stimulate The Economy?

2009-09-01

People make the right decisions far more often than the government ever has, does, or will. I think that the best form of government is one that encourages, facilitate, and empower the individual citizen to make their own individual choices on how to live their lives. I feel that this translates to the government trying its best to get out of the way much more often than 'providing' anything. I think that maybe the government should abolish the tax code as it is completely; And, maybe institute the "Fair Tax Act" as it is currently written.

The government should repeal and abolish all laws which restrict accumulation of precious metals; As well as, all laws which formed the Federal Reserve Bank. The Federal Reserve's mandate is to protect the U.S. economy and the U.S. Dollar and they have continually failed ever since it was created a century ago. The abolishment of the old tax code effectively abolishes the I.R.S. by default as the "Fair Tax Act" is essentially an interstate, and international, sales tax.

As Congress passes all of these acts the national economy will experience an unpresidented boon that will exceed all expectations. Charities will once again become a vital part of helping those in need. I think that all states should privatize their government schools and instead turn to a system of vouchers to insure all citizens receive a basic education; And, to encourage and promote this, I think Congress should shift all education money to a school voucher system similar to what President George W. Bush created. The system has already proven a great success, despite President Obama's halting of federal funding.

I feel that the best thing the government can do is to get out of the way of the private citizen, and small businesses. The Private Citizen, and small businesses are what have continued to give this country the greatest economy in recorded history, even as the National Socialist Party, otherwise known as the Democrat Party, threatens it with actions that increasingly has the Government get in the way of growth and prosperity. Every country that has gone down the path I have advocated has experienced unparalleled success; And, every country that has tried socialism has failed with universal misery.

Paying Tribute To Those Who Died For Our Freedom: Taking Chance

2009-09-01

I have seen a lot of movies in my time, but I've never seen one like this one. This movie takes a look inside something that most of us never think anything about: what happens when a US military service member is killed in battle.

I'm sure that many of you have seen the pictures of the caskets as they come into Andrews Airforce Base in Dover, Delaware. It is a sobering reminder of what happens when a country is at war.

The question is, what happens to those caskets after they come in? This movie answers all of those questions, and it does it in a very moving way.

The story is based on an essay written by LTC (Retired) Mike Strobl. Strobl volunteered in 2004 to escort the remains of a young man killed in Iraq.

This is about Strobl's personal journey. Strobl is working at Quantico, Virginia as a manpower-deployment analyst. He feels guilty because although he served in the first Gulf War, he hasn't deployed overseas this time. He volunteers to escort the remains of a young marine from his hometown.

The young man he escorted was Chance Phelps, a marine killed in the April 2004 surge, one of the bloodiest parts of the war. Although Strobl doesn't know Phelps, he wants to do something to honor this young marine because they're from the same hometown.

What I liked the most about this movie is that it gives a rare glimpse into what really happens behind the scenes when a US service member dies. Each set of remains is treated with the utmost respect. Service members are carefully prepared for burial, and they are buried in a perfectly prepared uniform regardless of whether the service member is viewed during the funeral or not.

I have to say I cried. As a veteran, these are my brothers and sisters who are dying. As a parent, this could have been my child.

By the end of the movie I felt like I knew the people in this story, who they really are/were, and what their lives were really like.

Regardless of your feelings on the war, this movie is a reminder of the high cost of war, and what our service members have done for us. It is a relief that at least in death we are able to render them a type of respect they might not have received in life.

This movie is not to be missed.

President Obama Made a Moral Mistake by Honoring Confederate Soldiers

2009-09-01

This past Memorial Day President Barack Obama - the nation’s first African American head of state - made a serious racial, moral and historical mistake. In an apparent attempt to avoid angering many Southern whites, he perpetuated a fraudulent 95-year-old tradition by sending a wreath of flowers to the Confederate Memorial at Arlington Cemetery near Washington, D.C.

By continuing a practice started by President Woodrow Wilson in 1914, Obama was, in effect, honoring and paying homage to the racists who instigated the Civil War for the sole purpose of keeping Blacks in slavery. These men do not deserve to be honored. They should be despised. As the nation’s first Black president Obama should have broken with this tradition and helped to set the historical record straight.

Instead Obama tried to soften the blow of his action by also sending a wreath of flowers to the African American Civil War Memorial located in the historically Black U Street area of Washington, D.C. (I say “historically Black” because gentrification is beginning to “whiten” that entire area.) Regardless, sending wreaths to both memorial sites was tantamount to honoring the slave and the slave master. It was tantamount to honoring the Nazis who exterminated six million Jews and the Jews who fought against them.

Further, the entire tradition of honoring the fallen Confederate soldiers is based on a gigantic racist fraud. The foundation of the fraud is the completely bogus idea that the eleven Southern states which tried to secede from the Union and form a racist Republic which would have kept Blacks in perpetual slavery were fighting for something other than slavery.

In the early years of the 20th Century, a revisionist historical movement began to portray the Southern whites as fighting for more noble goals such as “states rights” in order to keep the federal government from growing too powerful. This fraudulent distortion of history even began to make its way into our history books. It also helped pave the way for President Wilson in 1914 to actually dedicate a large bronze memorial to the Confederate war dead in a special section of Arlington National Cemetery.

The revisionist historical movement relegated the centrality of slavery to the Civil War and began to portray it as a battle of (white) “brother against brother” or “North against South” in a dispute over how much power would go to the states and how much would go to the federal government. But the only “states’ rights” the Confederacy was seeking was the right to enslave Blacks forever.

As University of Pittsburgh Professor Kirk Savage points out in an excellent Washington Post article (5-23-’09) all one has to do in order to determine what the Confederates were fighting for is read the articles of secession written in 1860-1861. He concludes “The historical evidence [that the South was principally concerned with maintaining slavery] is so overwhelming that, on this point, revisionism should no longer be possible.”

It is time for the fraud to end.

Confederate soldiers were attempting to break up the United States of America, establish a racist republic which would keep Blacks in perpetual servitude and in the process they started a Civil War which led to the deaths of over 600,000 Americans. There is no way historically, racially or morally that these men should be honored in any way, shape of form.

President Obama you have at least three more memorial days to celebrate. Do not honor these racist Confederates again. It is time for the fraud to end.

One Child Policy Has Nasty Kick Back Effect

2009-09-01

China's 30 year-old population planning of only one child, has led to an established preference for boys, as they are more productive on the farm, able to care for their parents in their old age and entitled to receive an inheritance. One 38 year- old China man said, "It doesn't matter how much money you have. If you don't have a son, you are not as good as other people who have one".

Girl children remain unwanted and regularly disposed of, or abandoned. Enforced abortion and sterilization became a normal part of living.

800,000 baby girls were abandoned or killed, in just one region, from 1971-80 alone. These numbers need to be multiplied by a further two generations, plus a dozen or more areas, taking the figure of missing girls into the tens of millions. The population planning is said to have decreased the population growth by 250 million, but it comes at an horrific price.

Now China has one of the biggest male-to-female ratios in the world. The 2005 census revealed an over supply of 32 million males under the age of 25. That’s approximately the entire population of Canada.

This has led to intense competition for the few females that are available, particularly in rural areas, where it is looked upon as being a thing of disgrace if a man is left unmarried after the age of 24. The situation has created a sharp increase in the price of brides. This has in turn led to a phenomenon known as the 'Runaway Brides', or 'Bride Scam', which is believed to be part of a wider criminal ring.

Prospective brides suddenly appear in mainly rural areas (visiting friends) where there aren’t any unmarried females. The girls go through the process of getting married and receiving the bride price, which can be as high as 38,000 yuan, (around $5,500), or approximately five years of income off a farm.

The girls' identity and residential papers usually prove to be authentic. Within a couple of days a marriage union is registered with the local registrar's office. Within a week there is a wedding feast and the groom’s mother officially hands across the bride price. Frequently the money has been loaned and scraped up from other family members.

The new bride then moves into the in-laws home and it would seem as if 'happy families' are about to commence. In a very short time however, the bride disappears – taking the money with her. Often several 'brides' become available in one region, only to all disappear at exactly the same time – with their dowries, leaving the briefly married grooms to pine away, in their loveless rural life.

Girls as young as ten years of age are trafficked across the Burma/China border as child brides. Many of the girls are sold, into an uncertain future, by either their brother, or father.
